Windshield Leak Questions
Windshield Leak Questions
Hi folks,
Been surfing this board for quite some time..but a first time poster, since my passion for Camaros way exceeds my mechanical ability.
The windshield in my 85z is leaking...there's about a 1/2 inch above the windshield stripping where the paint is bubbling/cracking and cancer is obviously taking it's toll. I'm sure of it because I can feel some jagged metal from the inside under the headliner.
Anyway, I take it to a local body shop today and I get what I think is the runaround. The guy told me that it would cost $600-700 to fix, assuming that the windshield doesn't crack coming out and no actual patching is needed. He wouldn't even elaborate on the worst case scenario. I realize that body work isn't cheap but I can't figure out if that was a real price, or the guy was jerking me around because he doesn't want the work. Any ideas or comments on this??
Any ideas on how to deal with this? Right now, I'm about ready to get rid of it, but I've probably put about $5-6k so far into it with the car, a GM 350 crate motor, new carb, new radiator, 91-92 rims, interior, and numerous other stuff I forget now.
Other than the windshield issue, the body is pretty much straight, but needs paint. I'm just looking for suggestions if anybody thinks it's worth repairing this, or should I go hunt down a nice roller to drop all this good stuff into.
I'd appreciate any advice that could be provided.
Thanks,
Dan

i install auto glass for a living and have been for 15 years. really until you get the windshield out you can't tell what kind of problems you have under there. it might be a body -rust issue, but then again it might be the windshield has lost it's seal. but the windshield needs to come out even to get an idea what you can do to fix it. good luck
