I am new to the Third Gen cars so I need some advice. My 83 TA interior sucks.
1-The passenger's side seat belt does not retract for the shoulder belt. and the little plastic belt gudes are broken or missing.
2-the electric locks don't work.
3-the windows are loose (electric window do work but slowly)
4-the shifter has no handle, just a metal stick poking out of the console (it works though)
5-The ashtray lid is just sitting on the ashtray
6-the console lid works but looks like crap

Any advice would be great, like do other years work, etc.

Um you could try just adjusting the guide pads for the window, they simply are unscrewed and adjusted to push up against the window and keep it in place. There at the top of your dor panel and have little pads on them I believe. About the slow windows, do a search because I sure someone was talking about a solution to that before. To fix the shifter handle you simply buy a new or used shifter handle. I dont kno what to tell you about the ashtray, there a pain in the butt and I just had to make the spring for it but you would probably be better off getting a replacement from the junkyard. I dont know exactly is wrong with the appearance of your console lid but its probably peeling off the sides and I believe they cost a decent amount here http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/in...il?v=1&pid=254 or you can go to the junk yard and try to find a decent replacement. If its just scratches and junk spray some armorall on it and keep letting it soak for a few days. Do a search, Im sure all theese problems have been talked about.

 

typically do not work very well in the 3rd gens. However, they are not hard to replace, and the parts are available. Check your fuse panel for any blown fuses.

Most all of the 3rd gen parts are interchangeable. Seat belts and the like are pretty much the same 1982 - 1992. You can even install 4th gen (1993 and on) seats into a 3rd gen.

Console lids are expensive, for nice ones anyway. Shifter handles are pretty cheap.

Slow windows. Check the tightness of the pads and try spraying WD-40 on the slide rails to remove some of the gunk out of them, if that speeds them up, then respray with white lithium grease.

Check the classified sections here on 3rd gen. You will find alot of the parts that you need right there.

Do a search on the topics that you are interested in learning more about........your questions have probably been asked and answered before, but feel free to post any questions that you have.

 

All third gen parts are swappable on these cars. Go junk yard hunting and see what you can find to fix what ya got.

I believe those early Pontiac consoles looked like the camaro consoles...so you could even look at the 'maros for console lids.

 

Thanks-I looked for bad fuses and didn't find any. I also checked the contacts for power and my test light did not light up. Maybe there is another issue.
