Side mirror Glass...

I read you must break out the old glass and reglue a new piece on the plastic support, power or non. This after I got a manual mirror assembly for the glass only. I am of the mind I can't use it because it is already glued on a parted out car (factory, etc.) HOWEVER, I did buy Goofoff spray to redo my convertible top and that may work to remove the adhesive. Any ideas or suggestions?

Also, what glue can I use to redo my vert top? I see the manual gives a 3M spraycan ref number. I'd have to hunt that down

Yes, but you're not going to like it. Get new glass from the HELP section of many auto parts stores.

You may be lucky and the used mirror you're trying to use (cheapskate, lol) may be the newer design. If so the back of the plastic that the mirror glass attaches to is attached to the motor (or manual adjuster) with a cross-shaped clip. Just un-snap it carefully and snap it onto yours (assumes both are the newer style mirror). Only the old design had a hidden screw in the center behind the glass that requires you to break the glass to replace it.

Thanks for the speedy reply, Lon
The thing is I got the mirror from the red Bird with the bumper I also posted a pic of here. It was a freebie that normally would get some bucks selling on eBay. Needless to say, if I can 't use it, it's still avail for someone

Just move the mirror glass to the furthest extreme (such as down and in) so you can peek inside with a flashlight to see if the backing piece is attached with the cross-shaped metal part. It just snaps into the motor. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to pop it off the motor.
