Okay Im using my dads account. But I recently got a white 1990 firebird in excelent condition 40k miles everything was flawless, including the rims. I bought some blue magic metal polish because I heard it worked great and it says #1 consumer product on the top or something. But I applied it exactly how it says on the directions. and when I come to buff it off, I see a white film around where I applied it. No matter how long I buff it, it doesnt come off. I know it wasnt there before because beleive me I examened every rim and they where imaculate. Does anyone have a solution???

 

what kinda rims? the factory ones have a clearcoat on them, so you may not have been polishing metal, heh

 

yeah yeah I definatly have stock rims, and I was reading about that. That the stock rims have a clear coat some ive been puttin metal polish on the clearcoat? maybe that discolored it somehow? but still... do you think theres something i can do to shine it up agian and remove the film

 

try using a regular car wax (of your choise) on your rims, it will probably fix the haze from the metal polish. If that does not work, use a compound, then wax

 

I use mothers paint cleaner that works great on clearcoated rims. It wont take off the cloudy color if its all they way thru the clearcoat though. They also have a clearcoated rim polish/cleaner i think its made buy mothers also. That worked even better, but i havent been able to find it in the last year or so in the local auto stores. It comes in a small bottle.

To get off heavy brake dust stains some 2000 grit paper followed by some polish/cleaner works great.

I dont think i would use blue magic on clearcoat rims. I use it on my rims that are polished and sometimes get it on the painted parts. But its made for polishing metal not clearcoat.

If the polish doesnt work try the 2000 grit paper in a small spot and polish to see if the cloudy color goes away.

Also its best to let the rims cool first.
