6x9" speaker brackets

I have an 85 standard so it didnt even come with rear speakers. When i got them installed i just put them in small boxes in the trunk. I was wondering if anybody knows if i could just install the brackets from an iroc or something and just use them to mount them next to the rear seats in the wall. How do the brackets attach to the car? I know the speakers just screw to the brackets but how are the brackets mounted thanks. I'm prob gonna try to do that and just buy new interior trim pieces with the cutouts for the speakers. THANKS GUYS

My 87 didnt come with the rear 6x9's and I found the brackets in a parts car, I think it was a 90, it was hard to tell though. the brackets mount to the metal behind the plastic trim with 4 screws . All I did was just cut out a hole in the plastic trim part, rather than get another, just make sure you don't make any hole larger than what the cardboard/fabric over-piece will cover. Also alot of new speakers have tweaters that potrude past the...uh...top of the speaker , to allow for this i had to mount the speaker on the back of the breacket, but it all ended up workin out.

I have what GM called "premium sound". Which means I actually have a 4x6 and a 5.25 where the normal 6x9's are. Anyway, i got the plates for 6x9's out of a parts Trans Am I have in my Driveway. is there a way to remove the plate that holds the two small speakers so i could put in 6x9 plates from the parts T/a?. I think the bigger speaker will sound better, if not let me know and ill leave it be.
