Headlite switch replacement

Today I yanked the **** on my headlite switch off and now I need to replace the switch. How do I do this? I know how to take off the pad and / or the instrument panel. But how do I remove the switch from the cluster? I have a 92 dash.

If its anything like the earlier(round gauges)3rd gens. You have to REMOVE the gauge cluster first & take the switch out from the side.If however you only took the **** off & the stem is still in the switch & the switch is still functional. You just push the **** back on.If not then the stem will have to be pulled out. There is a release button on the bottom of the switch that allows this.Once the bezel is removed you can see it.Afterwards remove the black plastic retainer nut.The switch should now be free to remove/disconnect from the side

You don't need to remove the gauge cluster on the early style. You can swing the fuse box down and reach up behind it with your hand to get it out.

you need to take out your gauge cluster. I have replaced one in my old 83 and in my new 91. On the 91, take off the lower dash pad, cluster bezel(houses cig. lighter) take out the gauge cluster next. Unscrew the black thing that holds the headlight switch. IF you break it, you are F'ed. unplug old switch and then do everything in reverse. Dont push to hard on the headlight **** or the black thing can break.

I'm not arguing. I've replaced mine without removing my gauges, so I know 100% that they are wrong.

Removing the gauges probably makes it easier, but once you factor in the time required to pull the gauges, it may or may not be faster. I have no idea. I never timed it. I just know unequivically that it is absolutely possible without pulling the gauges.
