Hi, I was watching knight of the phoenix and the air dam that the car had was like a metal box instead of a plastic piece.
Heres the pic . http://www.knightreplicas.com/librar...l/E01-1110.jpg
What is that??
Heres another one http://www.knightreplicas.com/librar...l/E01-0150.jpg[/IMG]

That doesn't look like it would scoop air very well. It also looks too far foward to be an air dam for the radiator

Your links don't seem to work...but maybe it's the thing they used to tow the cars around?

Well, I am going to search and find that metal scoop. But yes, the first picture looks like the towing bar.
Here, I'll post some pics.

I searched and searched last night and couldnt find any pics.
There was a metal like scoop for air underneath the spoiler.

------------ bottom of the bumper
!
!
!-------- bottom of the scoop. side view.

It was all metal and it wraped around like an air scoop.
It looked great, I think thats what Knight rider had. If you watch it carefully in some shots you can see this scoop.
I will still search for it, but I hope the little pic I have is good.

Could be for air deflection.. when KITT goes into turbo mode I would think he would be going fast enough for air to rip a hole in the radiator

Probably for towing, or maybe for support for doing jumps or something?

Well if it was for towing and was ment not to be seen, they did a horrible job of hiding it, because I've seen it in almost every episode of Knight Rider. I think that it has a purpose, and possibly one of his abilities.

In the first picture what you are seeing is the tow bar for filming. Its common practice to have the vehicle being towed by a camera truck while filming outside and interior shots. It would be dangerous and difficult for the actor to act, drive, and make sure to keep the vehicle in the shot.

If you look closely at the Back To The Future Delorean you can see the tow bar on that too.

The second picture is just the first KITT which was rather crude. It was made from the black and gold '82 T/A that Michael Long was driving in the begining of the episode. The gold bottom is covered up with rubber undercoating or tape and the front nose is just a stock one with the scanner cut into it and the vent louvers fiberglassed smooth.

The front ground effects and air dams were removed when the KITT noses were installed. Theres no doubt that the cars overheated since the grill openings were filled with fog lights ..

I just found this scene from Knight Rider that shows the tow bar and the lack of the factory air dam and lower front wheel flares.

It looks like they did their best to block as much air flow to the radiator as possible!

the "dam" scoops air up...
How about the 2 big holes where the driving lights are... that's a bigger / straighter shot than a couple of inches scooped up from the dam..

Dens71TA

I will email you the picture I have, if you can post it for a bit...
Thanks,

Rafael
