GTA Spoiler revival
As several of you may have seen the rear spoiler on my white '87 GTA was not looking it's best when I bought her. Considering it is the factory spoiler and has not experienced any major warping or splitting is almost a miracle. On the other hand the paint is another story. As all these spoilers warp and expand over time they push their paint off and end up looking pretty crappy or worse split all together and crack open. So today I decided I would try some more I of my spray can magic and see what I could do about making mine look better. I started off with some 800 grit automotive sandpaper and went over the whole thing, concentrating on the areas where paint was missing and removing paint that was flaking off. After about an hour of sanding I spent another 45mins or so masking everything off. Then I went over the whole spoiler and deck with a lightly damp wrag to get all the dirt and dust off. I had used some Dupli-Color Truck and Van paint to touch up the front bumper cover with great results so I did the same here using their color called "Pure Linen/White". The color is about a 90% match. I started it off with light coats to help fill the many areas of missing paint and to fill the numerous cracks in the paint. In total it took me about an hour and half to apply all 9 coats. After everything was looking good and pretty much filled I applied the last two coats. These I put on just a tad thicker hoping it will help give it a little gloss. The pictures below pretty much speak for themselves. Although it is not perfect it certainly makes a BIG difference. From 5ft away it looks great and for a driver that sits outside all the time it's all she needs right now. Consider the alternative of buying a new fiberglass replacement spoiler $375 plus shipping $50+ and having it professionally painted $100+ that's $525! My way: 3 cans of paint at $5/each, sand paper $3, time $40 (my time is worth $10/hr) total = $48 Savings = $477

GTA with pin striping? Is that a dealer thing? I don't remember any promo shots having pinstriping.
Your wing is in similar condition to mine. No warping, or cracking yet, but the paint is spiderwebbing and flaking off. Its a good fix if you just want to pro-long the life while you save for a fiberglass repo.
