Why do I have multiple colors of carpet?

Why do I have multiple colors of carpet?
My 91 Camaro has the med-dark grey (or whatever the color is called) interior. Now the carpet on the floor is very similiar to the plastic grey panels in color, but the carpet that lines the side of the center console looks more like a charcoal/graphite color.
Is this normal or is the stuff on the floor just THAT faded?
the reason I ask is because I'm trying to buy some carpet and I'm wondering which shade of grey I should go with? . . charcoal/graphite or grey?
