Rear hatch!

I want to know if anyone can tell m if this is normal. When i bought My T/A there was no trunk/Door key. So I went and got one and now ive opened it. The problem is now it will not close all the way. I know it has a pull down motor and it doesnt appear to be working. I assume it hasnt worked for a while, if so how did the previous owner get it to go down. Also before i opened it, it was completley straight and aligned and all the way closed, mine appears to be pulled out just a little, like its out of line is that normal, does it line up when the motor pulls it down?

I dont have the power pull down moter in mine (83 maro, to young, or is it old???) But my hatch has always been missalinged, as as every other thirdgen ive seen around my area. i dont know if they came from factory like that or not. You might just have to replace that motor. my

yeah it juts out like 3 quarters of an inch. does anybody know? Cause i swear before i opened it, it was perfect, so hopefully its just the motor. Yeah i didnt have a pull down motor in my 2001 and it was a dream. That hatch pull down motor is a cluster#@$*. They definetley nuked it on that one.

as does mine.. before you replace the motor( which i think thats your problem) Make sure its still got all its wires going to it, and none are frayed and or broken off. If those are fine, just go ahead and replace the motor. And see if that takes care of the alignment issue.. However i would love to know how to adjust the hatch manually...

check the switch, it's a lil black lever looking thingy near the catch mechanism ... if you push it down with your finger, the motor should pull the whole assembly down until "fully closed". When u release it, it should extend back up. Odds are the switch crapped out. Happend on my old z28.

How do I tell if the switch is bad though? And the wiring has definetley been jerry rigged by the previous owner so its hard to tell, one of the wires is clipped, so who knows.

Your hatch shouldnt be missaligned, if it is chances are it has been taken off before and they didnt line the bolts (at the top of the window) back up correctly. I would suggest taking the hatch off (with a friend) and re-alligning it, as this can cause unwanted stress to the glass. If thats not the case then its possible one of the shocks isnt extending all the way so its jacking it out of shape. As for your motor, check the wires like everyone said, but id go one further and take the whole motor out and then put it back in with fresh wires etc. if it seems to be jimmy rigged in there. If you do get it working and your hatch is crooked it could start to pull it down then CRRAAACCCKKK , if that happens email me and buy my old hatch that I just replaced with a nothcback!!!

if your big enough you can, i did it with a buddies while he was in the car he loosed the bolts and i pushed and held. If you ever get a chance to do that pass on that i think we did it 4 times trying to get it perfect.

The louvers used the hatch bolts to mount. The hatch didn't have to come off but the bolts were loosened.
