Hatch pull-down drain battery

After rebuilding my hatch pull-down (thanks Lon), my battery had a small leak, draining over a few days. I realized when i replaced the unit, it sat low in the car. When it pulled the hatch down the sensing switch did not engage. The motor stopped spinning but I assume it was still drawing current. I have since fixed the hatch and jumped the car, charging the battery. It seems fine now.

Does it make sense if the rear hatch sensor does not tripp even though the motor does not spin it would still draw current?

My car had a battery killing problem and it took forever to figure out it was the hatch motor.

It's very possible. An electric motor is going to work it's hardest when it is trying to move but it cant.
