important for NON A/C firebird owners...read

I have an 82 Firebird and ever since I got it it leaked water from somewhere on the drivers side. I thought it was from the window triangle so I put on a new rubber seal and that didn't fix the leak. under the dash on the drivers side there is a big 2 piece duct, this duct is held in place by 4 screws and is mounted to the underside of the cowl!! well the prob is the old gasket that is supposed to seal this up dried out and the duct housing is also cracked leaving me with no chance to properly seal this BIG OPENING in the cowl up.the opening is very visible by looking into the area where your window wiper arms are, look in the direction where the fender is and you will see just how big an opening it is. I am going to be making plate out of aluminum to go over this hole and seal it up with silicone and that should fix the prob.I have 2 other birds that are a/c cars and so I looked at them to see if they have the hole in the cowl but covered with a plate but they are not, this is strictly a non a/c set-up.I can't see why GM would put this vent in an area where there is so much wheather to deal with, rain, snow, ice build up etc.
so if you have a water leak on the drivers side of the car and you have a TRUE non a/c car then this is more than likely your culprit. I am not sure if this is the same on Camaro's but I will find out shortly b/c I am hitting the junkyard this week and I know there is a non-a/c Camaro out there so I am going to check it out and see if it is the same setup and I can check back and report what I find out.

Hey,
While your out there can you check if that Camaro has the under drivers steering wheel bezel. it holds the manual vent switches. I will post a pic.

That hole is a "ram vent" that was used on non-A/C.

The plastic used in most cars is ABS. You can fix the crack with the same glue plummers use to assemble pipe. It actually welds the plastic back together. Good as new. You can use a bead of silicone in place of the original seal.

You're going to wish you have the ram vent come summer time ...

just back from the junkyard, JandL the car didn't have the part you were looking for or I would have grabbed it for ya, sorry. the vent on the drivers side of the Camaro is the exact same one as on the Firebirds. there is also another vent on the pass side and I am assuming since the drivers side was interchangable then the pass side prob is to between Camaro's and Firebirds. I did score big time here. I pulled the a/c delete heater box mounted under the hood on the firewall a long time ago so I already had that but now after my junkyard trip today I have an almost 100% complete non a/c setup here. I snagged up the one really big defrost vent, the heater core box, the pass side vent, and the drivers side vent but that one has to go into my Firebird. I also has a non a/c control plate that goes over the heater controls, has a broken tab but still I grabbed it.
