Best Primer for over Bare Metal

In the process of painting a race car.

I am only concerned with teh interior and the undercarrage engine bay etc. The body will be painted later.

Car has full cage and sheet metal from drivers feet forward. Is now all covered with surface rust cage and dash only.

Nothing in car now but metal, factory finish on all interior except tunnel and dash. Undercoating being removed now. No motor, tran, rear end, glass, doors, fenders, gas tank etc. K member will be droped prior to painting.

I want a primer that I can sand the rust off and spray on and not have to add a top coat.

I understand that there are primers with hardners that can do this.

Need help from a real body man. I have not worked in a body shop in 20 years and an not up on all the latest techniques.

Please tell me the easy way to a tough durable finish.

Thanks

2 pack etching primer.
It contains isocyanates, so its bloody toxic, ie you need plenty of ventilation, or breathing apparatus, and spraybooth\extractors.
Once its on, it holds down rust and sticks like s**t to a blanket.

But you must wash the gun out with the 2 pack thinners, and dispose carefully of what you mix, you cant leave it in the gun, it congeals, and dont spray it in confined places.

PPG Epoxy Primer is the best for bare metel. It will actually seal the metal, so you can leave it for some time.
