Hubcaps

Was going to post this under wheels, but its more restoration.
As my car is pretty standard, and fitted with 14" L69 wheels, i managed to track down some bowling ball hubcaps. [i'm going for the "how it was in 83 look, even the colour]
I'm sure someone has had this problem, how the heck do you keep them on??
I heard they were tricky, and 3 seem fixed till i take them off next decade, but i did about 75 miles today over our 3rd world roads, speedbumps, and even a blast on the motorway up to 90, and they all stayed on.
Until, turning at 0mph into my drive, and that dodgy one fell off!!!
Laugh??
No i damn well didnt.

How, ? Do i use glue? Rubber bands? Staples??
Please dont say new rims. The hubcaps are retro in the extreme.

Someone must have tackled this, ive thought of lots of things, but i'm sure someones sussed this one out.

Thanks in advance.

That was a big problem back then, when the cars were new.
A quick fix, is to add tape where the cap meets the wheel.
Sometimes, you have to add a lot!
A more permanent fix is to use silicone.

Good luck,

George

There is a trick that the Knight Rider loons do that involves drilling a few holes in the plastic flange part on the back and then running zip ties through the hole on the cap and around the fins on the rim. That way there is no way for the cap to fall off and it would make if very hard for someone to steal them too!

Better still probably.
My neighbour works at a firm that make cable-ties [same thing], and he brings me back boxes of them. So a few wont be a problem .
