Hello,

Just wondering if anyone knows the part number on the metal clips that came out for the bowling ball hubcaps. They were supposed to help keep them attached better. I would like to try and find some, but need a part number. I know they show up on Ebay sometimes, but usually are associated with knight rider, so they get pricey.

So, how many go on each tab, 1 or 2?? There are 10 tabs per cap, so I could be using up to 1 bag per cap.

Also, the part number doesn't show up in the group section of my parts manual. 10.252 is listed under Instrument Panel trim, but the part number isn't there. Also, when I run the part number it comes up as "CLIP, DASH TRIM PLATE"

Not sure if they are both the same part used for 2 different things, or if GM just tried to compromise and use a part inteded for something else, and it worked.

 

The dealership only put a couple of them on each cap. The dealership may have instructions on how to install them.

PT#1245581 is correct. The Group # should be 5.864.

If you have a good set of caps with no broken tabs, you should put 1 on each tab, placed in the corresponding position of the machined part on the rim. That is the way they were supposed to be installed to give the cap a tighter fit, and help give the plastic tab a bit more strength so it wouldn't crack as easily or a chunk get broken off when removed improperly.

Yes, some dealers went the cheap way and only put on 3 per cap. That way they could do 2 cars per bag, which didn't help the problem the way it was supposed to.

If you can find a dealer that has them, it may be cheaper than what comes up for sale on the internet. Still way overpriced though, and they are far from "rare" as mostly claimed.

Your best bet is to check with a metallic fastener manufacturer. It will cost you peanuts in comparison with anyone’s price you find on the internet, any day.

 

Good luck finding them,As of 2007 they are discontinued from GM.

Luck wasn't needed. Just needed to know where to look. Other GM divisions used the same part for a different use. There are also 2 other automobile manufacturers that still use the same part. Then there is the part manufacturer itself where you can buy them by the pound for less than what the dealer charged for a handfull.

I found a manufacturer...but is says 1990 and up. Not sure if they changed the clips or what, or if I even found the correct clip. It's listed as "dash retaining clip" just like in my parts manual. Sold in boxes of 25. It doesn't have the GM number though, just the manufacturer number, and I don't know how to cross reference it.

EDIT:
Ok...I found a GM part number for the clips I found: 10062366. Obviously they are different than the part number listed above. Does anyone know if GM changed part numbers, or if these are two totally different parts? Both are listed as "dash retaining clip"

That looks like the clips that are used on most newer american cars to retain things like dash trims, console tops, window switch bezels, scuff plates and various other interior pieces.

so could someone indulge us a little on a couple other applications, years, makes, models that these clips were used for specifically ?
i have yet to even locate a set of finned wheels for my regular trans am i want a set of them just because they were stock correct but the knight rider freaks make the prices so freaking high its insane :O

That clip looks a lot like the ones that used to be on various interior trim pieces of my '93 K2500 pickup. IIRC, one place they were used was to hold the bezel in place that surrounded the PW/PL switches on the door.

 

so, are these in fact the correct clips that are in the picture above?? Nobody has verified this yet.

Talking with a friend who's a GM parts rep they were also used on a Instrument cluster for an Olds I think.I need to recheck that.

well, I can't seem to find them in any catalogs...not sure who the manufacturer is. If 90TA knows where to get them, let us know?? I'd like to be able to get some cheap!

What you want is a U Type Speed Clip Fastener, Type 2, with staggered barbs, simular to the picture below. I will have to check which design variation(s) and dimensions (metric or standard) was used. One supplier is in your backyard, Tinnerman. The clips were used by Buick on the Regal and Century dash panels. Ford and Chrysler also used them.

 

Someone told me that I should only use 5 retainer clips per wheel because they doubt I will ever get all ten on, it would require so much force to install the cap to the wheel, you would likely dent/buckle the cap trying to force it on the wheel.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
Please give me your suggestions.

 

Are these clips sold individually or in the packets of 25? I just had my local GM dealer do a parts locator and there are tons of these clips still available but I'm confused on how they're sold. List price is $1.15. That seems very cheap for 25 clips.

 

They are sold individually. I called my dealer too and found this out. Ask your dealer is there was any new update on that part # and the caps. I heard there was an update, but I am still wiating for my dealer to get back with me.

 

Well, I just called up one of dealers on the locator and cleared out their inventory.

If it's a fairly common clip, and you have one in hand, take it to your local auto body supply hose and match it up with what they have on hand.

Most auto body supply houses will have mountains of clips, fasteners, bolts, etc. Another option would be to hit the Auveco catalog and try to match it that way. Their catalog will cross reference the OE part number to their own, along with having diagrams, etc. The only downside is you might have to buy a larger quantity, but usually you can get 50 or 100 of the screws, clips, or whatever you need for the price of just a few at the local parts store.
