Projects finished ...some pics.
I finally finished some interior projects - iPod mount, cell phone mount (it's a magnetic holder that's also a mute - it mutes my stereo when calls come in) and a new rear view mirror with map lights.

The mounts are kind of intrusive, but looks very neat none-the-less. How do u like those Carbon gauges on the A-Pillar? How are they at night as well? I wondered about the illumination of 'em...

Thanks a lot guys. I'm pretty happy with it. Now I just need new carpets, door panels, shifter plate, rear seats........................
yeah, I have to take the iPod and the phone out all the time. I'm putting in an alarm with a microwave sensor next week. Should help a little, but I'm always going to have to take it out - fortunately the iPod mount is a quick release, and the phone cradle is magnetic so it only takes a second
Actually the mounts don't get in the way at all, I was pretty careful where I put them - the iPod wheel is now just at my fingertips when my hand is resting on the shifter, and the phone is mostly over the parking brake lever which I almost never use. The 'Carbon' gauges light up pretty well. I really wanted the Cobalt series gauges, but they were WAY too much cash - even these were more than I wanted to spend ($95)
Thanks. I'm pretty happy - especially at night.
I'll get some up tomorrow.
Yeah, it's a Pioneer CD-HF1 cell phone hands free kit - I'm not using the hands free part (a microphone in a convertable will never work) but it works great as a mute so I know when the phone is ringing when the tunes are pumping! I'm pretty sure it's just a trigger and would work with any deck that has a mute input wire.
Corbeau CR-1's. Really comfy, but already starting to come apart after a year. I wrote them a letter and they sent me new covers though - I just gotta pay to have them put on.
isn't that kind of inviting to criminals?

10,000 songs.
Went i first got it, it would skip a song if i hit next, or it would freeze, and they said i couldn't return it for that, so i was stuck with it, 3 months later my battery dies, they wanted 100 bucks to replace it.
so i did it myself and a thing inside cracked so now my charge plug falls out.
and cds have a nicer quality :P

CD's are slightly higher quality on paper, but I have a pretty good stereo in my car and I can't tell the difference. It is ****ty though that you had all those problems with yours - I guess I'd be pretty bitter too. Buy a new one and return it with yours in the box...

If you had a better system or better ears you'd hear a difference. MP3s really can't compare to uncompressed music quality. But with road noise and what not who really cares considering the convenience. I would (and did) buy a built in MP3 player with harddrive and call it a day- I'm not a fan of having to plug in things and remembering to remove them when I drive my car.

Just get an Olympus M:Robe from Radio Shack. $100 after $30 mail in rebate. Basically an Ipod mini with 5GB storage. Comes with a cradle and looks better/less trendy.

I thought 40gb were around 15 or 20k for songs....I have a 40gb with about 8000 and still have some room to go....but now mine is broken as well (buddy borrowed my bag that I use for school to haul some beer across campus and drunkenly put an open bottle in there)....hence beer+ipod= out 400 bucks
......but when it did work, I hooked it up to my bose system I have for my computer....doesnt sound as good as cd's IMO Supreme Member

you have to remember that the quality is all dependant on mp3 bitrate (but yest i know that cd>mp3 in quality, but its not that big of a difference with a high quality mp3)... that also has to do with the file size and how many songs you can fit on your ipod..
40GB = actually 40,000,000,000 bytes (37.25GB)
If you are putting mp3's (note, not wma) in your Ipod that are only 2MB a piece and have a bitrate of 96-128, you are gonna be able to fit a ****-ton of mp3's on that ipod, but you will be sacrificing a lot of quality... if you are extremely concerned about quality, downloa- i mean, rip your cd's
at 320Kbps (will make the filesize somewhere in the area of 10mb per mp3)
hope that helped a bit

I encode at 160Kbps VBR. Sounds great on my system from the low low punch bass to the screaming high notes.
MP3s are close enough.
Plus, going through a case of CDs while driving is a PITA. Using the iPod interface to find 1 song out of 10k is easy as pie.
