PMD seat question

I am considering the best way to recover my black PMD seats to put in my '89 Formula. The seats were out of a junkyard and the fronts are badly faded & ripping, the rears however are usable, no rips or fade. Originally I wanted to just redo the fronts to match the rear - all black. Then I found out it would cost $600 for just the fronts from an upholstery shop. OR buy the kits from Hawks and pay $360 plus about $230 for somone to install them(fronts). Now I don't know what to do. I thought about getting them done in a two-tone color scheme. Has anyone else done them in two-tone before? Post pics if possible, I need ideas.

Thanks

why would it cost $230 to have someone install them? I thought the installation would be a do-it-yourself kind of thing.

They are do it yourself, but they are time consuming, and time is something I just don't have these days. Plus there is the risk of ripping the covers installing them.

I have done the covers on mine, they are not that bad to do yourself.I didn't really feel any danger of messing anything up.They weren't pmd seats but it wasn't that bad.Changing the heater core in my car last weekend was far worse.

Just find a shop that will put the covers on for much, much less than $230. That's a rip off. The covers from Hawks or excellent quality, and for the price, you can't beat it.

Your other option is to give the seats to me.

I paid $80 to have my covers installed as well as some of the foam underneath replaced. I couldn't be any happier.

Thanks for the complements guys. I had a local shop do mine. Since I'm just a kid he had some mercy on me. Here are some more pics:

looks great!
I ordered my replacement covers from Hawks. So in about a month I'll be faced with the decision to try to do them myself or pay someone to install them.

Re: PMD seat question

Can anyone confirm that the seat covers shown above in 82firebird's post are the Hawks gharcoal vinyl covers? Also can anyone give any input on how these have held up over time? I'm thinking of purchasing these for my seats and they look very sharp in the pictures above, I like this look better than what I've seen of the velour covers.

Re: PMD seat question

I don't want to be mean here, but those covers are way too lose on that seat, there are wrinkles inside the headrests and on bottom too. I am sure it was still a huge improvement for 82firebird, but maybe there's a reason why some shop charges $230 for installation. I don't know, I'm no expert, but I would expect them to be little more snug and tight (then again that could be manufacturing issue with the covers but you can always add some extra foam).
