Painted a fender in class
from an F-150 in class...
Sorry it's not truly TGO related, but the thread really intended for "here's an idea" type of purpose. The fender is a candy red called "Laser Red" from Ford. I use only PPG products at school, and on this application Deltron basecoats and cheap Omni for clearcoat. The fender consists of a red ultra metallic groundcoat (2 cts, 2 drops), with a red translucent candy over it (3 cts), and cleared (3 cts). I then baked that, and wetsanded and scuffed it with 600 for the next step.
The flames are hand drawn with my initials. I used 1/8" 3M tape to tape em out, and put some parchment paper over that and cut it out along the tape line. Be careful not to go all the way through the base tape or you'll have visible scratches... Ask me how I know. I then painted them white (2 cts) all the way through to get them to stand out, and filled in the rest as needed with yellow, orange, red, and then the ground coat E9 from before. All the colors were reduced 1:1 except the two reds, which were a little bit more thinned out. I used a small gun, not an airbrush. I feel it gives a better blend, but if you're doing fine lines, by all means use an airbrush. Two coats of clear over that.
My appologies for the camera phone pictures, I'll get digital camera photos either tomorrow or monday, and post them when I can. They simply do not do justice!
