It's a very complex two man operation. The latches have a nasty tendency to stick. Here's what you do:

1 - acquire friend
2 - make friend pull and push the release in/out all the way (moving the lever through it's full range of motion repeatedly)
3 - while he's doing that pull up on the hood with one hand and bang on the center about 10 or 12 inches up from the nose (right on top of the release)
4 - the combination of pressure, vibration, and the motion of the cable should make the hood pop

If this doesn’t work then you’re stuck stripping stuff off the bottom of the car until you can reach up and get to the release with your hand but I doubt that will be necessary. I have had great success with the aforementioned method.

I had the same problem with mine and I tried the method described above.
It worked most times, the one time it didn't I gave up I went to the store and while driving the hood broke loose and lucky for me only opened an inch or two.

To fix it I crimped a metal band to the end of the cable essentially shortening it 3/16 of an inch, and I oiled the mechanism.
It now pops open normally.

I was having the same problem, and was usually able to open the hood without help from anyone. I would just pull the release cable, then go and tap rapidly but lightly in the spot already mentioned by another poster, about 10 inches up from the lower center of the hood.

I found out that the problem wasn't with my latch, although it was filthy and needed a lube. Turns out, the metal bar that is bolted to the underside of the hood and which the latch "grabs" had a groove worn into it that was preventing the latch from releasing properly. Replaced that bar and now it works flawlessly.

Keep us posted, and good luck. It is an annoying problem, for sure.
