Can SS hood be made functional on carb'd motor?

It seems to me that if you cut out the center part of the cowl (the parts that "non-functional"), put some screen on it and make an air pan (for a carb's motor)? I havent gotten mine yet, but I was just wondering if anyone here has done this yet, make and air pan and such for it. I didnt know if the "scoop" would be close enough the the carb for it to work or what the deal is. Anyone got some pics, or does everyone leave theres non-functional?

I'd say go for it.

You wouldn't see much of a gain on a TPI motor, a nice cold air setup will handle that. Because a ram air system isn't going to RAM air like one would think. However, with a carb setup, where it's sucking up nothing but hot engine heat, you'll get nothing but cooler air coming from the outside at speed. Couldn't hurt, and you won't get made fun of

Id like to, but if it cant be done I dont wanna be the first person to find out, and destroy a $500 hood for nothing!

anyone got any pics? Or does anyone have the hood that can look to see if it is possible with the position of the cowl and all?

Didn't one of the early Z28s have a functional louvre?

Have you considered this?

And even if it doesn't work, the hole will at least get some of the hot air out of the engine bay. I say go for it.

ya Scotty, thats kinda what Im considering. But also making a sealed pan so that its a true ram air setup. Like I said though, Im just wondering about the placement of the "mouth" on the SS hood.

How are you going to RUIN it? An SS hood with a freakin hole in it looks way better than an SS hood with a block of material covering where that hole is supposed to be. You'll get made fun of a lot less that's for damn sure. Just do it, if you can get it to be true ram air, cool, if you can't, it's still DEFINATELY going to help.

if your sheetmetal savvy you could do this but reverse it so you get everything from the SS hood.

This was done for a cowl hood. Same idea Diff hoods.

ya, kinda like the NASCAR setup just reverse. Only thing is Im not sure how hard itll be to weld sheetmetal that thin. I dont weld, I usually take it over to out bodyshop and have them weld for me. I know if they had to they can weld a damn frame together, but Im not sure if sheetmetal that thin would be too thin.

i have the ss hood, and a carb setup did cross my mind at one time and i looked into this. from the looks of the hood, it would be very easy to modify to do this. I have stealth ram, so what i'm gonna do is cut out the back, and cut out the front of the scoop, just so air can pass through, so it would be like cowl induction on the backside, and air coming in on the front side, i'm hoping it will pull some of the hot engine bay air out so the engine stays a bit cooler..

but it wouldn't take much IMO to make a custom ram air setup for a carbed setup..
