Shaving the exterior
Shaving the exterior
I've got a BAD idea!!!!!!
I want to shave my door handles and lock cylinder and side markers since I have to repaint my whole car! (my passanger door was smashed with a custom colour, so the whole car has to be repainted, grr).
I'm looking for input good or bad, and if possible pictures from anyone who's gone before me.

I like the idea of doing something with the doorhandles... but I wouldnt shave them. Mayben install a handle that mounts flush and has tthe key cylinder built into the assembly?

one thing ive always wanted to try:
i want to shave the door handles, but thats not legal for any form of racing.
so my thought was, what if i remove the handle, and left a flush keylock?
but instead of the keylock turning a lock, it turns the latch like the handle.
under normal usage, the electric poppers of a normal kit are used.
OR
you can put the key in the door, turn, and the door opens.
when you goto race, put a special key in.. with a spring loaded ball bearing, like some T-handle pins have.
this creates a 100% legal "handle" to open the door.
i havent done it yet, but it looks totally possible. i just have too many projects ahead of it to try it.

i'm shaving off the door handles, got one done anyway. I'm considering making handles like the C6 vette, though have no idea how i would pull that off yet. Probably get some C6 parts. I'll have to check out the local vette at the dealership.
The thing that really should be shaved off is the antenna. My car looks so much better after that thing was gone. I dont listen to the radio so i didn't care but if i ever wanted an antenna i could relocate it inside somewhere.

Great, I'd be very interested to see pictures! I agree, the antenea should go, but I do use the radio, so I was thinking about running it on the inside of the back hatch (which I discovered today leaks, it ruined some very important paperwork) along with a CB antenea.
FYI I'm feeling victorious....at 210,000 miles, with a transmission that slips, overrevs in second gear and has almost no first gear, my 2.6 BEAT an 04 mitsubishi eclipse last night! (not low end of course)

i would be worried about shaving the side markers. At night, your headlights can't be seen very well at all from a 90* angle so the marker light is all that makes you visible to many other drivers at intersections.

shaved handles are a blast to show off to the 'uninformed public' (those that arent too involved with cars/mods etc)....and once all, if any, kinks are worked out, they're no problem whatsoever

any of you ever heard of the magic touch? I don't know alot about it i caught it at the end of an episode of overhaulin' looked pretty neat just touch the door and it pops.
Here's the information for you I had to find it again. http://www.lafranceautoworks.com/
I guess it's only for those that cost is no problem. I didn't think they ran that much.

interesting idea in that it steers from the direction of door poppers.....but where the hell is the security???? stick with the shaved handles...like said above, nothing beats having a chick get to the passenger door and get confused....I always tell them it's a 'compliment car' so when they compliment me, the door will open - then wait with my finger on the button...once they tell me I look good Ill pop it for them....cheesy yes, but loads of fun for me
