Steering wheel spacer

I have an 89 Formula (no airbag)

I like the stock steering wheel, but want to space it 1-1 1/2" closer to me. I did a search and saw where someone said the adapter they'd used on an aftermarket wheel had spaced it closer to them, but this is a case where the wheel is the factory one.

Does anyone know how I might go about this?

Thanks

It's going to be a lot tougher to do that with a factory wheel, especially a formula wheel, because I think the splined section is pretty much permanently attached to the wheel. On the Z28 wheel, you can separate the wheel itself from the shaft, so you could build a spacer. I don't recall whether the standard firebird wheel can come apart like that or not.

While it's probably possible to rig something up for that formula wheel, I think your life would get MUCH easier if you bought an inexpensive Grant wheel and made a spacer for that.

Yeah, I know that would work, but I really like the factory wheel. I'm going to keep trying to gigure out how to make that one work.
