Can side molding be painted over?

Can side molding be painted over?

mine's pretty faded on the top half. if i leave it on when i take it to get the car painted, can they paint over it and will it last? or will it eventually fade again? anyone not take their molding off when painting their cars? thanx

Yes, you can paint over it. As long as it's sanded properly, paint will stick. The paint will fade at the same rate on that as it will on the rest of the car. The reason they fade when they're stock is because the color is part of the plastic, not a top coat.

It does a better job if you remove the moldings and paint them off the car, then re-install them, but most people just leave them on the car for paint.
