another entry said that the cars need the weight there for traction..i wonder if that's true? if 100lbs. is removed from both the front and back...the car should be balanced, but lighter.....shouldn't affect the handling....may need the springs cut to maintain ride height.

yes someone makes them for our cars, they aren't made to be replacement their made to be pinned on, but this guy blue lightning did his and made it work like factory. I'm pretty sure he is a member of the boards that's how I came across his cardomain. (I'm not a cardomain surfer)
Anyway I think it's harwood that makes the lexan stuff for our cars.
i was going to get you all a link to the stuff but their website seems to be down at the moment.
EDIT: yeah it's harwood that makes it I scanned his pages and came across the information for sure.

I would go with Percy's Glass instead of Lexan, I think its called Polycarbonate? Not sure. But I know Percy's makes a lightweight replacement for the glass hatch and you can install it using factory methods for a factory look. I think Percy's Glass is better because it does not scratch and its chemical resistant, you could even tint it just like regular glass. I plan to do the full kit to my IROC-Z, even the windshield but thats later on down the road. Just remember that our cars are already front heavy, so if you are looking for a 50/50 you have to lighten the front alot to be able to do the lightweight hatch and get the distribution you want. I think there is even a fiberglass deck lid for the rear hatch, get rid of the stock piece alltogether.

this other forum member told me he got real loose when he removed the rear hatch. i think he needs to lower the points on the lower control arms and mount a aftermarket torque arm all for better rear hook-up...don't you think mr. hawaiian?
If all he did was lighten the hatch and he ended up having traction problems then I would guess its due to the weight difference. But its not like his car is ruined, he'll just have to do more mods for more traction in the rear. The stuff you listed would help but I dont know if that would offset the weight difference. For me I'm more into roadracing and drifting so I'm not really interested in traction off the line, more interested in a neutral weight distribution. Either way, I would do weight reduction in the front before doing it in the rear.

hey, hawaiian....i go to track days too...love road racing the z-28...can i ask what spring rate you're running? front and back? i've got bilsteins all around and tubular a-arms in front...all aftermarket rear suspension parts, but stock ws6 springs....i feel the rears could use more....but i need someone else's experiences to help....rears are probably around 110lbs? fronts, maybe 550? am i right?
