Rear Hatch Problem ('87)
Rear Hatch Problem ('87)
I have an '87 Camaro, and when I close the rear hatch the little motor that lowers it down doesn't turn off. Also, when it is closed, one side is raised slightly. I noticed that this is because one of my struts is a tiny bit longer than the other.
Anyone know what I can do to fix this? Will I be able to just take off the longer strut, and make it even with the other or will I have to buy a new one?
Thanks
EDIT: I'll try and explain what I think is happening, I close the hatch, and the one side (with the slightly shorter strut) is down in the correct position which activates the motor. However, the other side (with the slightly longer strut) is keeping the hatch from latching onto the motor straight which is somehow preventing it from pulling down. Ergo, I think that if I can make the longer strut even with the shorter one, it will fix the problem.
p.s. I have no idea how this happened, it just started one day after I closed the hatch (I might have closed it too hard, but I don't think so)
EDIT 2.0: I just read through old threads for about an hour and couldn't find anyone else with the exact problem. The hatch does latch, it just doesn't latch straight on and the motor doesn't turn off.

You are going to have to remove the plastic rear cover that encloses the pull down motor. There are a couple of phillips head screws on top & 4 of those big plastic screws holding it on the sides, 2 on each side. Once you have the cover removed you will see that the motor has 3 bolts holding it onto the car 1 on each side & 1 at the bottom. Loosen the 3 bolts, the motor can be adjusted side to side & up & down slightly so that it closes the hatch properly. You're going to have to try adjusting it slightly each time by trail & error until you get it perfect.
