rear latch loose - not sure how it mounts

hi all,

i just picked up a 1990 RS (first camaro). the rear hatch latch is loose. is looks like it slides into a bracket mounted to the body but there does not seem to be anything that holds it in place. i noted some white platic things that were on the floor (some brokern). are these responsible for securing the latch or am i missing something. pic would be great.

thx,

mike

Yeah, those plastic pieces are probably from the pulldown motor slides. They do keep it in place and stop it from sliding around. I've never looked into buying new ones before though. Not sure if you even can. I bought a whole new pull down motor for my bird and it came with new ones. Does your pull down motor work?

I have seen them on ebay before. I think it was A-1 Auto. It's an easy fix, mine was the same when I got it. Went to Junkyard, took them off a car there. Fixed mine, took 20 min total time.

pull down

Hey all,

I do not seem to have the motor part. There is no motor attached the latch mechanism. There seems to be a relay and some connectors there for one though. I also do not have the switch on the console. It is a 1990 rs 305 5spd. Not sure if they made them without the motor. I need to pull the console and see if there is any wires under it. I bought the car from a tow yard. Seems to be in ok shape just needs some TLC and a clutch. I will check the yard tomorrow.

thx.

I manufacture and sell the guides you need. They are sold as TDS 101170 Aftermarket Nylon Guides for 1986-91 F-Body Hatch Pull-Down Unit. The OEM guides are junk. These aftermarket ones are much stronger. I'm so conficent in the design that I offer them with a 5 year replacement warranty.

I also sell reinforced motor housings. However since you said your motor is missing you'll need the
TDS 201170 New style motor for 1986-91 hatch pull-down units.

thx for the info and the site link. i am a little confused however. i do not have a switch in the console or dash to work the hatch. was the pull down motor also on cars without this? i am wondering if the console in the car is not original.

thx,

nevada

The switch you're missing is for the optional hatch release solenoid. It is easy to swap your manual key latch release for a solenoid release if you want. Do a search on thie site. The topic has been discussed already. I have used solenoids available. It just attaches with a single 10mm screw in place of your current manual key latch release. You'll need to gather a few other things such as that switch and the socket it plugs into as well as the relay. It is best if you grab the entire wiring from a donor car.
