What Is Involved With Removing the center Console and ....

Hey Guys, how hard is it to remove the center console on a 1989 GTA, and get the carpet to pull up half way in the front? Thanks!

Take the shifter handle off first. There is a smal U clip in the front of the shifter to take out. Then the shifter plate. There are the 2 bolts you see on the top and another one under the ashtray. You will also have the unplug your power accessories. Then for the console there are 2 10mm bolts in the glove box and 1 more the holds the console to the shifter.Easy job

For the carpet you may have to remove the kick panals and door sills.Any maybe the seats depending how much carpet you need to pull up.

Thank you Steve for your help. I am going out there right now to do this. Once I get the carpet up, I can see what is involved with putting these power seats in. At least I have the harness!
take care

You dont need to remove the center console to install seats. The power harness should run along the inside of the rocker panel. Just remove the rocker molding, the kick panel and loosen the sail panel so you can pull the carpet up enough to get at where the harness is/should be.

Thanks DJCobol, I see what you are saying. I ended up taking it out before seeing this post. It was actually better, since I had to remove my factory seat harness, and feed the 4th gen seat harness in (tight fit if console was in). I had to cut the factory 4th gen seat power plug. It only had a orange & black wire going to it. So I am going to splice the two oranges together (my factory orange, and the 4th gen orange, and run the black to ground). Then I should "cross my fingers" be able to bolt the drivers seat in, and have power!
Thanks man
Later
