Engine Bay Paint.... questions...
Ok my first question is, What type of paint is more for engine bay duty?
Enamel or Laquer? I'm talking the cans of paint at your local autozone/advance. Which s made more for grease resistance, and which is not. What process should i go about when painting the engine bay,
Currently i degreased the entire engine bay with aeresol cans of degreeser, and a pressure washer. Got it really clean, got all resisdue off with dial kitchen soap(what i was told to use) and later a clean water pressure wash. I primered 2 coats. What is next? Do i clear coat afterwards? I didn't do much for straightening or sanding so i am pretty sure there is no need to clear coat as it will only make the imperfections look worse am i correct? But i also want logetivy from the paint.
Next question. My car will be painted the 4th gen Pewter. But i want contrast on the car. Should i paint the engine bay the same color? I was searching through the boards and did see different colors used in the bay. So what do people think about a black engine bay, Pewter exterior, and a GM Blue Engine(sorta like Pontiac Blue but used on GMC cars back in the day).

i was told not to use primer unless it was a high heat primer. if you have excess heat it may cause the primer to bubble even if the top coat paint is high heat. who knows though. what i used for the paint was that 500degree low gloss black in cans at autozone

its all in prefference.. i know i will have high engine compartment heat due to huge headers 2" stepped UNCOATED headers and 14.5:1 compression.

wel i used to have high under hood temps, in cold weather there would be steam coming from my hood.
all i have is 1-3/4 headers, and a maybe of 10:1 compression.

What I did when I painted my engine bay not too long ago is grinded the rust spots down and primered the areas that I grinded. Then got some tractor paint which I think is a good choice because it is very durable and cheap, but I didnt like the color it was, (Satin Black) so then I just got some semi-flat black Rustoleum. If they had the color I wanted in tractor paint then I would have gotten the tractor paint instead.
