Prep'ing body work before paint
I want to soooooo badly paint my '89 jet black with lots of clear. Problem is the body isnt in perfect condition. Ive done bondo and fiberglass work before, but never to the point where it ended up getting painted (fixed my quarter panel on my eclipse, but just primered over it). So lets say I do MOST of the metal, bondo and fiberglass work myself before I take it in to be painted. Is there any type of, preferably, spray-can primer that can atleast hold out moisture from the bondo? Ive heard that most primers left unpainted will eventually absorb moisture and sink down to the bondo and metal causing the bondo to chip and metal to rust. Also, will a car cover help at all to try and keep moisture out?
The reason Im asking this too is because I dont have a dedicated garage that I can do all my prep work in. I can do it in my garage, but by the end of the day its gotta be back on the side of the house. Plus since Im painting it black, I know the body's gotta be damn near perfect and Id much rather get it right myself rather than paying a body shop to do it. Ya I know, Im a stingey SOB
