Make my Berlinetta less ugly?
Make my Berlinetta less ugly?
I love how berlinettas and rs's look (mostly because I dislike gfx) but I hate the 3 scoops in the front bumper. I'd like to cover them up on my car but I'm not sure how. Should I just cut up another bumper and epoxy some strips in place then finish it up with some body filler? They're made of vynil right? What adhesive bonds with it best? I'd like to add a chin spoiler also, it looks like I could mount one to the bolt holes on the front of the fender overhang, what do you think?

just get the nose off of a later car that dont have the scoops. as long as ya get a Non GFX nose if ya dont have GFX and a GFX nose if ya do and it will be good. your gonna have to repaint if ya do a hack job any way so ya might as well get a properly done nose. i like mine im gonna make a Ram air scoop that grabs from there.

I have a mint berlinetta nose that you can buy for $75 plus shipping and you can pratice on one and have a spare just in case. I think shipping through DHL is like $20 depending on how far you live from 87506.
There's berlinetta/rs bumpers that didn't have the nose scoops? I had no idea. What years should I look for? Thanks for the offer iornduke, but I'd just assume go to my local junkyard to get a bumper to practice on.

But what about with the 85" berlinetta styling? I'm pretty sure all camaros past 85' have the same bumper design as the z28/iroc. I preffer the berlinetta nose which is why I'd have to modify it. Anyone know of an adhesive that works well with it?

you're not making a whole lot of sense...you want a chin spoiler and no holes, but the 85+ z28's give you that...so does the 82-84 z28...but you don't want the z28 nose...but it's not much different then what your discribing.
you'd be surprised, the 82-84 z28 front bumper cover may be were it's at for you.

I want to make my own chin spoiler that hangs about 5" back where the fenders stick out infront of the wheels. The berlinettas have curved rocker panels and rounder corners that would look strange with a big square z28 bumper in front. The berlinetta bumper has a smaller grille and rounder corners that match the body style. I'm trying to go the opposite route that most 3rd gen'ers go and try to smooth the contours instead of making them stand out. I'll try to put up a pic of what I want it to look like when I figure out how to change it to a jpg... hey, I'm a gfx hater too!

what if you painted the slots the same as the hood accents?
interesting paint scheme, my buddies 84 berli has the same hood, but with yellow where your's is silver.
here is my car: white with black accents on the front

and Kody's car:

i guess without those slots, the cars wouldn't be sportcoupes/berlinettas...i like the slots, so much that i enhanced mine...

Yea, the scoops are what makes a berlinetta stand out but how many berly's have you seen without the scoops? It would make my car different from the z28's and the berly's. Maybe I could connect the pinstripes on the nose across where the scoops used to be like this...

well it looks like youll have to hack one up. OR maybe you can get a bumper with GFX and kinda combine them together? that may work. but good luck with stability. either way, you got some cuttin to do.
I figured I'd have to cut up some bumpers either way. I have to repaint the bumper anyway because I bumped a cement wall and the paint on the nose is all scratched up now. It'll look great when it's done.

I'll start another thread and put pics up once it's done. Matching the paint is what's going to be hard because it's a custom mix. The first layer is metalflake with a layer of clear candy purple ontop of that and 3 layers of dark clear candy blue ontop that. It's really amazing when you see it in person because in direct sunlight the shadows turn purple and the rest is metallic blue. It's a pain in the a** to get right, though.
