What is this annoying squawking sound coming from under the dash???!!!
Question, whenever I turn the key to the ON position, I get this squawking sound that comes from under the drivers side dash area. Anyone know what it is and how I can get rid of it. It's driving me crazy!!!!

im pretty sure its just a noise to let you know the key is in the ignition. my 82 had it and my brothers 91 z28 has it but his is more of a ringing noise. not a sqwaking noise like my 82 z28 had. im not sure how to get rid of the sound. i guess find the source of the sound and disconnect it.

That noise comes from the convenience center. If you remove the kick panel by the driver's feet, look to the right of the steering column, and you'll see a plastic block with some stuff attached to it. It kind of looks like a fuse block with enormous fuses. One of those is the buzzer. Remove it, and no more noise, but it's sometimes useful to remind you that you left your lights on.

That buzzer is by the ALDL in my 84Z.Its a small black box in the same block as the horn relay,Signal blinker relay. You have to drop the under dash cover.Pull the plastic block down(looks like a fuse block, sorta)it should be by the center console & ALDL.Then pull out the buzzer. This thing also remindes you if you leave the keys in the ignition or leave your lights on & lastly warns you to put your seatbelt on(leaves seatbelt warning light on if you dont).

Thanks for all the replies!! I will have to look in this convienience center and remove the buzzer. I removed all the ECM and wiring cause my car is a carb'd 350, so all I have is the wiring for the dash lights, headlights, horn, etc. Anyway sitting in the car, with the door closed, and the engine running it still makes the nosie. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, it is most appreciated! Thanks again, Paul Moore
