Need steering column help

I took the column apart today to change the ignition lock back to original ( didn't get a key with it) and found a few problems. When the po took the original lock out, he must have broken something in the switch that the signal mast clips into, cause it keeps falling out. What do I need to repair this. #2 I realized that I have always been able to turn my steering wheel with the ignition in locked position. The lock pin that slides into the slots in the lock plate doesn't move. I pulled the collar forward far enough to see the pin and gears, but a plastic piece fell out and I have no idea where it is supposed to attach in there. The rod to slide the pin lock is just hanging in there loose, unattached to anything. Is there a web site, or book I can look at to see what needs to go where.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The camaro shop manual is pretty helpful. It has a steering column section with a breakdown of the parts.I believe though the signal mast is held in place by a metal bracket that is sort of curved or cresent or L shaped. Two screws are use to retain the bracket/mast.As for the lock pin/bolt i thought there was a spring behind it.Dont know about the plastic piece though.Have any pics.

I have a Chiltons and an old counter parts book with exploded views. I'm pretty sure I figured it out, once I found a few "spare" parts for it in the center console from the po !! The spring for the lock pin is broken and I had to order a repair kit from the dealer to get it. It isn't available as an individual part. I get the kit tomorrow morning, so I will know if it's going to work. I may still need to replace the pulse wiper switch that the mast snaps into. I did get it to pop in tighter today, and it felt like it locked better. I should know more tomorrow. Thanks for the help !!

Can you scan me that pic or take a pic of it? A bearing in my steering column close to the steering wheel went bad, the only purpose of it is i guess to keep the steering wheel from wobbling. The ppl at auto stores have no idea what im talking about and im not sure if they even sell it as an individual part.

I think that one will have to come from the dealer. The columns in these cars were still being used until recently and many parts are available from them.

There are about 10 pages on this subject, but here is one with most if not all the parts, no part #s though.

Are you sure this spring is in there to keep a preload on the bearing?? If it is, I have the bearing you need. I had to buy a repair kit to get a spring for mine and it came with this bearing. Let me know if you still need it.

Also, check out this web site I found for help with the removal of the steering wheel and lock plate. There are very good pics and comments on doing this repair. Good Luck
