Singe or Dual-Stage paint?

Alright the time is nearing to get the car painted.

I have all the replacement body parts in hand, the hood, fenders, and bumper cover, i just need help deciding which todo.

TO some this may sound rediculous, who asks which one to use. single stage has gone very far as i am told and can seriously bring out a shine.

In your expereince which is better.

The color i am using has a very large amount of metal flakes. Very metalic color.

Previosuly i had a single stage, and was very proud of the shine, however it was done at one of the local "maaco" shops and the job wasn't nearly as good as it could of been.

Which should i go with?

base/clear(two stage) is hands down, by far a better system to use. the shine and depth is so much better. it will also last alot longer if done right. im not saying that single stage is bad. it really depends on you budget.

If u have very large amount of metal flakes. U can not wet sand or buff single stage. They are good for soilded colors.

If u want that real deep look with base clear put on like 2 or 3 coats of clear. Than wet sand with 600 to 800 than clear again. Than wet sand and buff. Will look great.

Isn't 600 a little rough for wet sanding?

Anyway, I'm gonna have to go with 2 stage paint because of the shine and durability.

yes if u are going to try to buff it.. i was talking about spray 2 or 3 more coats of clear over that......

most of thetime I'll spray 3 coats of clear than wet sand with 1500 than buff.

Has anyone attempted to use a single stage paint, then an additional coat of clear of the same brand and type with one of those pearl powder additives, and 2 more coats of clear over that?
If so, did it have decent depth and shine?
Just wondering.

There is no reason to use a single stage basecoat if you intend to clear it.

With solid colors, a single stage paint can look just as good as a basecoat/clearcoat, but eventually the color will fatigue sooner than if you used a dual stage.
