Heater/Air Condition controls not working

I am not sure if this is the correct place for this question but I will give it a shot.

The heater/airconditioning controls are not working correctly in my 87 TA. I only have the high blower setting, it is allways on defroster (with runs my compressor constantly) and the temp slider does not work. (it always is blowing hot)

Any suggestions? Is there a relay or sensor anywhere that I need to check? I am going to be replacing my center console this weekend so it would be a good time to troubleshoot this issue plus with summer quickly approaching the last thing i want is the heater blowing.

Thanks

Have you checked the fuses? The fan switch actually has 2 power sources. One is direct 12 volts for "high" speed, the other has "resistors" built in for the slower speeds. The fan itself is a one speed motor. The amount of current it gets determines the speed. I would pull out the a/c heater control, there is a vacuum line back there that may need to be looked at also a cable conection to control the temp adjustment. Your switch control may have to be replaced.

Temp slider has a rod that goes to the inner heater box, there is a metal arm that opens and closes the door for the heater core. that metal arm may have broken, or the rod. If the arm or rod is broke, you should be able to turn the arm so that it goes to the cold setting (which closes the door to the heater core).

Having no vent controls is usually a vacuum problem. there is a vacuum line that goes from the engine into one of the wiring harnesses on the firewall and into the car to the heater controls. If the vacuum line gets melted or cut, the vent defaults to defroster mode.
there are also vacuum lines from the heater controls to the inner box as well.

Hey thanks for the information guys. The problems seem to have started when I had an aftermarket radio put in so someone could have bumped a vacuum line off.

Thanks for the info.

Does anyone have a diagram of how the setup should look? I can see anything off or out of place.
