Lexar TTops

I have my stock '91 firebird tteps and they have the Lexar coating or material. Anyway it has blotch spots where it looks like it has peeled off in places. I think they are plastic ttops because they are '91 but I dont know what the peeling is on them. The inside looks fine and the tint inside looks good. The problem is the outside dark black coating that is peeling off in places. Can I take off the rest of it somehow so it all matches, or do something to make it look better?

You could try removing it with a white scotch bright brush. I've heard use the white kind since the other ones scratch??? If that's even right, but it is worth a shot. Get some windex and see what happens.

I had the exact same thing happen to me actually. Lexmar T-Tops I think they are (92 Z28). Anyway, this is what I did. I pulled em off the car obviously, and my first attempt was to wetsand them, I think I used either a 2k or a 4k wetsand. That worked but it was tediously slow, prolly got a quarter of a top done in several hours (by hand). My second approach was a combo of a razor blade and the sanding. I sanded the whole top until the edges of the delaminating started to turn white. Then I took a razor blade, brand new, and put it at a very low angle and actually scraped it off until it started to not want to peel anymore, then more wetsanding until the edges whitened, followed by more blade. I used maybe 6 or 7 blades for both tops, and a few small 4"x4" sheets of paper. Then after that was done I buffed it well to get the major scratches out from the sanding, and then basically buffed it with a glazer finish to get it to like new. I have pictures of before and after I think. Worked out great IMO.

Or u can find a pair of glass tops at a junkyard (I lucked out, found a pair for 75 bucks). Now I've got both options LOL.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, or do some more searching, thats how I came across my ideas.

Good Luck.
