Factory Targa Top?
eBay Motors: Pontiac : Trans Am (item 4632074251 end time Apr-23-06 18:45:26 PDT)
Check out this ebay auction. I'm 99% positive there were no factory targa top GTAs. Is this a custom job?
Thanks,
Bill

That is a cool car indeed. And the targa section looks to be glass or lexan.Only drawback I see is storing the targa section if it doesn't break down or fold. The TV show "Simon&Simon" used a '82 Z28 targa conversion. But the targa section on that car was made of canvas.

I am sure there were a few dealers that sent a couple to private companies for stuff like that.... just like some of the early 3rd gen convertibles

It looks cool, but after living with my Corvette that has a targa top, I think it's a good thing that GM didn't do that on the f-body.
My Corvette twists like a soft pretzel with the roof off the car. Bumps make the whole car shudder so bad that you wonder what part is going to fall off first. Go over railroad tracks and you'll swear that the exterior panels are smacking into each other. Hit a bump in a corner and it upsets the balance of the whole car. The car twists so easily that it's impossible to reinstall the top unless you're sitting on nice flat ground.
Considering that the rigidity of the f-body is even worse than the corvette, I'd be afraid to see how one handled with that center bar removed. The one major benefit to the t-top design is that the car is still rigid with the tops out.
The t-tops are also much easier to remove/install, and to store. I couldn't wait to use the targa top on the C4, and I still use it every time it's nice out, but after living with both, I prefer the t-tops.
