The original paint is starting to flake away. What is the cost of a good paint job if I am going to restore?

$1,000-10,000 depending on your idea of "good".

If you want somebody to mask, sand and shoot with a good 2 stage urethane, plan on $1,500-ish. If you want it done right with all removable items removed, and you don't do that yourself, the price will go way up because of the additional labor involved. If you want it wetsanded and buffed, the price will go up. Any necessary body work will make it go up too.

Your most cost effective option is probably to do the dis-assembly yourself, but unless you're very good at it, let them prep the body and do any necessary body work before they paint.

Jim speaks wisely.

The route I took (on the cheap) was to bring it to a national chain of paint shops [b[after[/b] doing all the prep work. I might have saved 500 bucks.
