Exterior Window Sealing Strip
Exterior Window Sealing Strip
The shop manual states the window glass has t be removed to replace the Exterior Window Sealing Strip. I have an 87 IROC, has anybody changed this sealing strip without removig the glass?
Thanks,
Gary

If you're talking about the exterior window sweep on the outside top edge of the door, yes, you must remove the glass. There are a series of phillips screws that hold the sweep in place from the inside of the door. When rolled all the way down, the top of the glass sits just a tick too high to remove one of the screws.

No you don't. No way.
Get the door panel off, find the adjustable fuzzy pieces that prevent the window from tilting, and loosen them so that the window can tilt in farther. Once you do that, you'll have ample room to get the screws out with a wrench. Remove the triangle at the front, then unscrew the window sweeps and replace them. Just remember to re-adjust the fuzzy things before you put the door panel back on, otherwise the window will flop around.
The hardest part of this whole project is taking the door panels off, which is pretty easy. You'll have both sides done in an hour if you're not used to taking off your door panels. If you've had them off as many times as I have, you'll have both doors done in a half hour.
