A couple of interior questions
Hey everyone,
I have a couple of quick questions. I am getting ready to tear into my interior. The driver's seat is totally trashed so I am looking to get a replacement from a wrecked car. What years are a direct bolt in? I have heard that all 3rd and 4th gen seats will all bolt right in. I plan on changing the interior over from maroon to black so the seat color will not be a problem.
Also I have a steering wheel question. Does anyone know if the four-spoke wheel from a 2nd gen Camaro, ie early to mid 70s, will fit into an '85? I have always liked that style and have had one in a '84 pickup in the past. I appreciate any help and/or advice anyone can give me. The interior replacement for this car is kind of a daunting task for a newby like me. This car had sat for a while before I got it, and it has a funk to it. I plan on tearing it all out, keeping anything good and replacing the rest.
Thanks again,
P

It is true that all seats from 82 and newer will bolt right in for you. I don't know if the steering wheel is a direct swap or not. As for the funk, you'll probably want to get new carpeting in addition to seats. When you swap your interior, there are a few things to be aware of when looking for your new (well used) interior plastic parts.
1- if you have an 85, then you have lap seatbelts in the back. Starting in '89, 3rd gens changed to a rear shoulder belt. Be sure to get the large interior plastic parts and the small pieces to the side of the rear seat cushions from an 82-88 car so they match your seatbelt arrangement.
2- The rear-most plastic piece that covers the latch mechanism had several different designs. Some have a larger "hump" to accomodate a hatch pull-down motor. Also, some will have slots in them for the t-top bag hold downs. Also, some had a built in ledge for a hinged rear cargo cover and others didnt.
3- Less critical- Some cars had provisions for a rollout rear hatch area cover and there will be small circular holes near the hatch strut for the rolling cover to mount. There will also be cutouts in the plastic trim under the decklid for the cover to attach to.
there are several more things when you get into door panels and dash stuff, but these are some basic things to look for so you don't spend money on something that isn't really what you wanted.
