I've been considering painting the Camaro myself, just curious how others went about it. Did you know someone in a body shop, were you supervised?
How did it come out?
Thanks
John

my friend and i are working on repainting his '82 t/a and neither of us have any training in bodywork but we did have a guy that has done it come and help us for a couple hours out of the whole week that we've been working. in my opinion it's cheapest to do your own bodywork and then take it to a pro at a collision shop or something to have them spray the base, clear and then buff it out
How good the car comes out doesn't depend on how hard it is, it's more of your own ability to do the job.
You can say that you are willing to put in a lot of time but not everyone is born to be a painter/body man. It's just a risk you take if you decide to do it yourself. And paying someone to fix your mistakes can be more expensive and paying someone else to do it from the beginning.

Im taking autobody at my community college so i would call myself a bodyman yet. but i plan on painting my car this summer.like everyone else said just take your time. a good paint job starts from the metal up. i dont know if any of you guys remember but in a a couple of issues back in super chevy mag their was a communty college (forsyth tech) that did a 69 camaro for a kid whose dad has died at war. well anyway i helped paint that and have did some of the body work on it. they took the car to the sema show too. it was pretty cool.

I have done the body work and painted my T/A twice since starting this "project" last year. I have spent about $400 on supplies(I am using a single stage Ful-thane black paint) and there is an art to getting it right! Unfortunatly I am no artist. I will probably end up taking it to school and trying to get the Auto body shop to do it right.

John89, My buddy and I have done 3 cars so far. Recently him and I painted the engine bay on my 91 1LE black....I opted for single stage paint but it came out mirror beautiful. You can do it yourself, you just have to have ALOT of time and patience. My first camaro I fricken hand sanded the ENTIRE thing and actually used rattle cans to prime it. That paint job lasted for years until I flipped / rolled it
