i was wondering if anyone has ever switched from a hard top or a sunroof car to one with ttops like had the roof section cut out, im wondering if its hard to do, and how much it would cost to do and where would i take it to have it done.

Hey, I converted my 90 to a ttop. I found a roof from a 1987 Iroc and cut my roof off and welded the new one on. See my sig for pics.

yeah leaking does happen, i suggest removing the t-tops weatherstripping and resealing them, you'll undoubtably find surface rust on the t-top frames. This will probably fix the problem, t-tops are still much better than hardtop no questions asked, if they don't leak that is.

IMO i think any time u cut a hole in ur roof its never like stock, even if u take it in somewhere, ttops r high maintaince, u can ask my friend. They will most likely leak, though i think they leaked when they were new, even sunroofs, but then again thats my opinion.
Btw heres a thread 4 ya.

Axle/Gears: posi, and posi w/discs :D.
first of all, if you cut up your roof you will lose strucural integrity. especially with t-tops. but if you really need them, they arent very high maintnence, takes about 1 minute to adjust them and no more leaks. ive had to do it with both my cars, and ever since i havent had any problems at all.

Not for nothing, but for what you would pay to have that done properly, you could probably buy a decent 3rd gen with factory t-tops in it and still have some gas money left over.

flip through any automart or autotrader and third gens run 4 to 8k, so consider that against major surgury, especially with the requsite repaint afterwards. But, you'll have a great car show story your way.

If your car has already been cut for a sunroof, installed T-tops may be more expensive than its worth. The center section was almost certainly cut when the sunroof was installed, and a new bar would have to be welded in. There are so many Third gens around, can't you just find one with factory T-tops and keep your hardtop as is??

(needs to be a 2.8l for insurance purposes)

buy a new one, swap and rebuild both cars, and resell the lesser. The losses will probably be less that hacking a car. Call some buds over and make a weekend of it.
