T-Top ? plastic edge strips around glass ?

I just bought a set of glass T-tops off ebay and they are in really excellent condition to replace my old glass ones that were slightly scratched. These new ones do not have the little black plastic strip that goes around the entire glass edge of the top like my old ones do. I can see a mark on the new ones that lets me know the "edging" was there at one time.

Do i really need that plastic edge? it looks alot cooler with out it but Im worried about it maybe leaking like a sieve without it. I could use the strip off my old ones for the new ones but i will probably end up cracking the plastic. Anybody have any experience or suggestions concerning this ? My first thought was no wonder the guy sold this on ebay its missing the weatherstipping. The glass and plastic however is near perfect.

Its just a style of t-tops, the band helps keep the glass rattles down

Wont leak if you adjust the recievers to match, as well as your winder
