Best of luck- my spoiler is suffering much the same, it has cracks, bloating, etc. The guys at the paint shop told me that getter the paint to adhere and cure properly is a real pain with those original rubber spoilers- they are just bound to crack. Someday soon I'll replace mine with a fiberglass replacement...good luck anyway.

Is it worth mixing a little bondo and hardener then filling in the cracks like you might on sheetrock with spackling? My 88TA has the same problem.

Rubber=Flexible

Bondo=Not Flexible

Rubber + Bondo = Bad Idea

My dad just fixed spoiler on his '86 with some super glue gel and clamps. It has held together in the bright (HOTT!) sun for about 3 weeks now w/ no cracking.

We are going to sand his spoiler a little bit and prime and repaint with some rubber/plastic paint. It has some flex agents in it.

If it doesn't work ... then we're out about $20. Don't blame us for trying!

yes bondo does work on plastics not regular body bondo they have a special bondo for plastics you mix two things together it stinks really bad but its flexable and will solve your crack problems

No matter how you decide to repair the cracks, be sure to seal between the spoiler and the rear deck properly or it will split again. I cut mine open(on the bottom) with a carpet knife and found loads of rust, which is probably what caused it to split (because water wicked up inside it). I used a grinder to expose the metal skeleton, sealed the metal parts with POR-15, and then filled the cavity with sealant. I sanded it smooth and it looked great. I wound up buying a fiberglass version, but I sold mine to a guy I know and he had it painted. You'd never know it was damaged at all. Good luck!
