Painting lock cylinders?

I sanded, primed and painted the exterior face of my car's door lock cylinders. However, the paint upon and around the key slot cracked when the lock was turned with the key.

Has anyone successfully painted the "inner" surface of the door locks?

I painted it and the same thing happened. What I did was I used some good strong paint like krylon epoxy enamel, and then just scraped the paint away in this area, leaving it silver, and the outer area black. I think this is how it was from the fatory right?

I tried painting the lock caps years ago and it didn't last. What I did was remove the lock form the door (easy) and take them to a locksmith who just replaced the top caps with new black ones...they look brand new now....just reinstall them.

Thanks for all the info, guys! And holy crap - I had no idea that you can replace that inner portion. I'm going to contact a locksmith this weekend to enquire. I took the locks off to paint them, so I'm getting to the same place that 82 Iron Duke's at, haha.

I've had my doors apart a few times this summer (to swap in power mirrors, windows and locks and install a new lower hinge pin) and figured resurfacing the locks in black would be a nice touch after all that trouble.

Hey,

I had to replace my RH door because when i bought the car it was in a collision. The new door is in, but I would like to take the lock out of the old door and put it in the new one. Or at least take it out and I'd bring it for a mechanic to do because it looks like something that would take a lot of patience. I have the trim off in both doors. If you could point me in the right direction on how to do that I would really appreciate it.

I hear that you can have them bead blasted and re-powdercoated to whatever color you want, but I've never seen it done.
