I have a question that maybe someone can hook me up..I am currently installing window tint on my ride and was thinking about installing some on the t-tops as well.My problem is where I live its a hotter then SH&*!! and I want to install the tint on the tops ,but would like to remove it during the winter months.Does anybody know where they sell that non-stick tint that just sticks but isnt permanant?I checked pep boys but didnt really see anything other then the regular tint.I dont want some baby suction cup crap either.Just something a little darker and still look good?

 

Why would you want to take it off during the winter months

 

why tint them when classic industries sells t-top sun shades

 

Keeps the interior warm when the sun is shining.

 

I put limo-tint (5%) on the inside of mine, it's there year-round with no adverse effects in the winter time, helps the a/c in the summer time when the tops are on.

 

I have scratches in my glass, where if you hold it up to the light the ceramic coating is gone, does anybody know how to remove the old coating or can you tint it so black you cant see the scratches.

 

Ditto. I purchased the shades and it is much cooler. Trust me on this one.

I thought all the '91-'92 models came with dark-tinted lexan t-tops instead of the glass ones. That's what mine are and they get scratched easily. But the factory tint is so dark you can actually look at the afternoon sun through them and not hurt your eyes (just don't try this at noon though). Don't know how dark that is percentage-wise, but I've seen 2.5% limo tint before and my t-tops are darker than that! From the outside of the car they look completely black. I haven't looked at a whole lot of people's '91-'92s, but I just assumed they were all like that.

If you come across the dark ones like I've got for cheap you could have a set for summer and a set for winter. Also they're good for drag racing cuz they're slightly lighter weight. Not much of a difference, but lots of little things add up to be a lot. I just picked up a pair of the lighter colored glass ones at the junkyard for cheap since they weren't as scratched. I kind of like having both kinds.


I've seen the shades. Those sound like a good idea too--especially being in the desert in the kind of heat were having now!

 

Awesome ..thanks for the replies guys..I like the shades they look real clean.But its nice when your sitting at a red light and look up to check out the weather.I just installed 20% limo tint on the side windows ,and the tops have a lighter tint on them.I have another question for you all ..I have a rear defroster..(like I am ever going to need it living in a desert) but I wanted to install some tint on it and was wondering if I removed the oem tint would it hurt the function of the defroster or can I just install tint over the oem stuff?

 

I took my car to get the rear window tint installed professionally since I thought I'd probably screw it up, with it being all curvy. But after they did it only like half of the defrost lines work now. Not a big problem though, I can still see out ok--just not great. Some shops are more careful than others. The place I went to seemed ok, but you never know. I'd get a recommendation on a good shop to go to from someone if possible--unless you do it yourself which I wouldn't recommend for the rear window.

 

Just buy some car carpet, and make your own t-top shades. The Menards hardware store in my area sells black car carpet for $0.49 a square foot. Other hardware stores might have some.

Or just spray paint it

 

this weather is real hot even here in minnesota we have hit 100 deg and no rain for weeks every thing is drying up and I have a black car wich atracts more heat but the t tops sun shades keep most of the heat out but like I said you can always take them off its only temp. its your choice but your best bet would be the shades for the t tops

 

I made shades out of ... cardboard, fabric from walmart(which matches headliner) and 3M spray glue.....

 

I asked a guy at work and he said he did this same thing..just have to get the right cardboard and match the color.

 

Ya, my fabric doesn't match perfect but it's pretty close.
I even bought the card board at wal-mart too.

 

 

i have seen a guy paint his t-tops to match his car. i believe they were lexan. if memory serves me right the car was a burnt orange T/A and he painted the t-tops body color and it looked bitchin. i can see if i can dig up a pic somewhere if you want.
