Help!! Replacing Bushings in 87 GTA Headlights
Ok guys here is the deal. I have an 87 GTA that the passenger side headlight has been flakey about come to the on position. So after so research I did what every one else on the board has done. Got on my internet browser and went to top down solutions. Where I purchased the bushing repair kit. Well thought I would tear into this tonight. Started reading insturction(always a good place to start) and it say manually bring the headlight to the up position. Wow stumped on step one. The headlight will not raise with the power or by cranking it. I have staried at it blindly for about an hour and can't seem to figure out a way to the the head light up any suggestion?
Just as a side note. I ordered the parts from top down solutions on thursday morning and they arrive on saturday just going thru good old snail mail...Way to go TDS
.....But I'm sure most Bird owners already knew that.

Or you can pull up on it and twist the motor at the same time. Its just so you can get easy access to the bolts that are holding the motor to the light housing. You could try to get at the bolts without raising the headlight motor but its a real pain in the *** and you'll have to do some really funky stuff with your wrenches to get in there.

The bushings in mine were completely disentegrated and I could not get my headlight to pull up. On the passenger side you will not need to take the motor out to do the repair. On the driver's side you will. Since you are on the passenger side you will only have to remove 3 bolts, but make sure to spray some WD-40 on them before giving them a turn. A 7mm socket will ft them if memory serves me correct. They are located towards the bottom of the motor where the gear is located. So by going from the manuel turn **** at the top of the motor and looking down the right side of the motor you will notice a round area on the motor and that is the location of where the 3 bolts go. You might have to put a wrench on them at some point if the socket will not fit, but it should. Two of the bolts will be easily seen right off the start and the other is hidden on the backside so you will have to feel for it. Once you find the bolts and start to loosen them go slowly until you can tell that they will come out without breaking. If the don't come out right away, spray more WD-40 and take you time because it is not fun having to drill out a broken bolt that small. Once you get the cover off take out the gear, thoroughly clean the old grease and bushing reminents out and then put new grease on the "screw" looking threads in the opening, then put your gear with the new parts back together. Put on the new gasket after scraping the old one off and then put the cover back on and then you are set to go. Good Luck.
