What Solvent to Use?
I'm in the middle of the nightmarish proicess of replacing t-top seals. I am currently attempting to remove all the old black, gooey adhesive, and there is a lot of it in the channels. My question is about which type of solvent to use for this job?
Here is my problem: I have used Goo-Gone, a paint thinner, and gasoline, applied with a tooth or paint brush, allow to sit for a moment, then wipe away a layer of adhesive with a rag or paper towel. Well, the solvents are softening and removing the paint, too, so I am down to primer in a few spots now. This sucks. How on earth am I supposed to remove all this gooey crap without damagaing the paint?
Thanks for any insights.

Come on, has no one been through this before?
I'm about 1/2 done with removing the old adhesive/sealant. Have been using a combination of the above chemicals, and have found that cotton ***** work well for this.
I am losing some paint, but I guess since it's going to be covered by the rubber anyway, I won't worry about the cosmetics. Any bare areas will be painted to prevent water getting to the steel, though.
