Having issues with gas tank recall!!
So...if you dont know about it, read the sticky.
I had my fuel pump replaced at a reliable shop 2 days ago. When they pulled the tank they noticed cracks at the solder joint where the neck meets the tank. I have been smelling gasoline near the tank in the past, but thought I had just gotten fuel somewhere when filling up.
Anyway the recall is for 1991 rs's right? Well my shop called the dealer and they wouldnt replace the tank b/c they said it was the wrong model (At least I think thats what they said).
Anyway, I am going to call the deaer and find out what the story is.
But even though its a 1991 Z28 and not an RS, the symptoms i had with the old tank are exactly why they made the recall. Do I have a case here or what? Id like to get my $400 back for the price I just paid on a new tank.

I think the gas tank is the same part used in both RS, Z28, and any other thirdgen. Check the part numbers out on the tanks and see if they are the same, if they are, there is no reason you shouldn't deserve a free gas tank.
But the recall is for GM mechanics to replace your tank, if I'm correct.

I had the same problem with my 92 RS they kept saying it wasn't in the computer
so I kept arguing showed them my paper I printed of from alldata, and they finally went into something on their computer, and finally found it. So they tested mine for free, but mine wasn't leaking at the neck it was around the sending unit so I couldn't get the recall
Just keep arguing as long as yours was built within the production numbers that the reacall was on they have to do it by law
