T-top Anger

It was raining hard here today, and my wife told me when she got home that the t-tops are leaking once again! I spent hours replacing the seels this summer...getting the channels spotlessly clean, applying a nice bead of Permatex black RTV around the sealing area. I also adjusted the tops so that they fit pretty tightly, as far as I can tell. They are actually a bit hard to latch into place because of the way I adjusted them so they are tighter. This sucks, and makes me appreciate hardtop cars even more.

I guess my option now is to apply some more RTV all the way around the edges and hope for the best.

Sorry to hear that. I've been working on my seals in between school and work for weeks now. I just finished refurbishing my weatherstrip retainers and attaching them. The car is ready for for the weatherstrip and I'm afraid i'll have leaks when its all said and done.

Yeah, I was sorry to hear it when my wife told me, too!

Clean channels, new seals, RTV...still leaks. I guess the only thing I can do is maybe try to adjust them differently and use some more RTV. Sucks though. I hope you have success the first time around!

Wow that's really a drag, fortunately for me, when I replaced all the weatherstripping, it cured the one leak that it did have. Can you pin point exactly where it's leaking from? Hopefully it's at only one spot. Remember the weatherstripping that goes on the t-top itself can be adjusted forward & back.

I'll try to do some investigative work as to where the leak is...wife tends to drive the car. How do you adjust the rubber on the t-top itself?

i found what helps is if you get some foam strips, it's kinda like weatherstripping but one side has adhesive on it you can buy rolls of it in varying thicknesses and widths, but i put it along the existing t-top weatherstripping and it seals tightly around the perimeter of the top and keeps the water out. i'll try to get some pics and show you what i mean.

If you glued the piece that goes on the t-top, you won't be able to do it. I found that it's not necessary to put glue on the weatherstripping that goes on the t-top. It just slids on and is held by the lip on each side very tightly. You have to ensure that it is centered exactly right or you'll have a small gap in the front or rear where it meets the weatherstripping that is on the car.
