Notchback rear window

Hi guys, I’m new here and I need a little help. I’m doing a overhauled to my son’s 88 gta notchback while he away at university. I’m painting the car, rebuilding the drive train and changing all the weather strips on the doors and t-tops. When I brought the car into the shop I saw some water in the trunk, the weather strip around the back window is rotted and leaking. I call the GM dealer, his books don’t show a weather strip. Doe’s anybody know if the back window comes complete or is there replacement parts? Has anyone repaired the back window on a notchback and what did you use?

i had the same problem...
you have to be very careful not to break the rear window, you won't find a replacement.
i cut mine out with a manual windshield knife, there are 4 screws and brackets on the bottom and i believe 2 screws on top....i;m not sure, but there is no weatherstrip.
u have to use that urethane windshield sealant w/ a gun, make sure everything is clean. and re-glue it.... i had some problems w/ some of the screws spinning and not tightening up, i went to the hardware store and got some inserts to put the screws into to tighten up. i had a buddy at a windshield shop give me some of that windshield trim that goes on the front windshield around the edges, and put it facing towards the inside, on the outside i smoothened out the sealant and tried to clean it as best possible. unfortunately nothing is available for that notchback anymore. but mine has been leak free for a good 3 years now, and im very happy.

Thanks Blkdth87, I thought about urethane but I’m worried about the getting it all over. I talked to some body shop guys, one of them thought the F*** motor co used a urethane tape on some of there back window. He's going to check to see if it available. I’ll let you guys know

I went to a local shop here and they will put in a window for about $90. They cut the glass and then send it to Houston to have it plastic coated. Since I dont have my car "done" yet, I will have them put in a plexiglass one with window tint next week. I will leave the hatch at the shop so that they will have a good working angle to insert the 'glass. I got the notchback for $39 at a local junkyard.

Re: Notchback rear window

The window is in and the Fiero GT wing is mounted. I forget if I took any pictures or not, but the window is plexiglass and limo tinted. I had the shop do the rest of the windows in limo tint also. window was $80.00 tinted and installed.
